What’s a Carissa?  At Tricom, it’s a spontaneous, innovative and occasionally off-the-wall idea that ultimately proves as successful for clients as it is improbable at conception.

Opening the Chicago office of Tricom started out as one of Carissa’s outlandish ideas stemming from her quest to get back to her Midwest roots while refusing to give up her lifelong “Tricomer” status. Currently directing integrated marketing and media relations for clients from Tricom’s Chicago office, including NeighborWorks America and Lions Clubs International, Carissa has been putting her innovative ideas to work for more than 11 years to help nonprofits strengthen their brand and raise their visibility.

She coordinated marketing, logistics, technology support and media relations communications strategies supporting the launch of President Obama’s “Making Home Affordable” program in Chicago, a large-scale, collaborative effort between the U.S. Department of Treasury, the office of Mayor Richard M. Daley, the City of Chicago Department of Community Development, Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago and Attorneys’ Title Guaranty Fund Inc. that helped hundreds of homeowners apply for loan modifications through the president’s new foreclosure plan.

Carissa joined Tricom in 2000 and opened the Chicago office in 2006. She has managed public relations for Dr. Robert Ballard’s JASON Project, a science expedition program for students and teachers. She also coordinated nationwide advocacy campaigns for the Alzhheimer’s Association working to promote public policy messages, and organize Capitol Hill advocacy days for chapters across 50 states.

Earlier, Carissa worked at Widmeyer Communications as part of the education team that launched the National Science Foundation’s Figure This! program and lead initiatives for the National Center for Education Statistics and the National Association for Bi-lingual Education. She also has worked at Lipman Hearne helping the University of Chicago and the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) strengthen visibility through strategic marketing.

Carissa holds a B.S. in journalism from the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University. The alma mater of several Tricomers, Ohio University is known as a great journalism school with a big football problem. Happily settled back in the Midwest, Carissa now lives with her husband and daughter in Chicago.

A testament to her Midwest mentality and her tenacious work ethic, Carissa is a true meat-and-potatoes kind of girl. No matter what her clients order, she always gets it well done.
