Social Media with a Grain of Salt

PR Tips

The growing popularity of social media has quickly made technology this generation’s main source of communication. Whether it’s chatting with friends through Facebook or blogging about random topics, our thoughts and opinions are out there for the World Wide Web to see. Why then, are we so surprised when we must face the reactions of our negative online actions?

The Internet is not a diary; there is no lock and key and others will read what you write, regardless of how long ago it was written. Posting and blogging are similar to signing a contract with the Internet and should be done so with thoughts of accountability, not irresponsibility.

That’s not to say it’s wrong to speak your mind online; many argue it’s the right of free speech.  It just seems ridiculous not to expect consequences when doing so.
